Best Dive Bars in Taipei
Taipei's best dives range from explicitly scrappy late bars to music-first basements and live houses with the same informal, regular-led spirit. Every generic pub was excluded unless current reporting directly documented dive-bar characteristics.
- RevolverRevolver is Taipei's clearest modern dive: a smoke-heavy downstairs bar, cheap pints, a loyal mixed local-and-foreign crowd, and a tiny upstairs room for punk, metal, indie, hip-hop, and experimental shows. Check the performance feed, but do not expect the bar itself to become polished on a quiet night.
- Another BrickAnother Brick is small, scrappy, and genuinely social: posters and memorabilia cover the walls, the toilets are graffitied, a fish tank shares space with board games, and the basement hosts drag shows and other events. Daily happy-hour Taiwan Beer keeps the room accessible to students and regulars.
- The PubThe Pub qualifies because a current dive-bar survey found a regular-led room with memorabilia, late hours, inexpensive promotions, shifting music, and nights that swing from nearly empty to packed. The generic name alone would not have been enough; the observed atmosphere is the evidence.
- Bar StardustBar Stardust combines a Japanese kissaten mood with a Western dive: dark light, dolls and odd figurines, alternative rock, strong cocktails, Orion draft, occasional live music, and a dependable 4:00 AM close. It is the best end-of-night stop here when mainstream playlists sound unbearable.
- Witch HouseWitch House is a progressive cafe-bar and one of Taipei's foundational intimate live rooms, especially for original songwriters and women in independent music. The close stage, bookish clutter, irreverent decor, and Thursday-to-Saturday shows make it a credible dive-adjacent stop rather than a generic cafe.
- PIPE Live MusicPIPE occupies a century-old pumping station by the river and programs independent bands, hip-hop, electronic nights, and cross-genre events with an unusually loose late-hour ceiling. This is a ticket-and-calendar venue, so choose the bill first and the bar second.
- The Wall Live HouseThe Wall is a straightforward, no-frills basement built around rock, punk, metal, shoegaze, hip-hop, and experimental bills. A long bar precedes the performance room, but the reason to descend the spiral stair is the current show—not a polished standalone drinking experience.
- 23 Music Room23 Music Room is a craft-beer party room with an explicitly unassuming dive-style interior, open-deck nights, young local DJs, and genre shifts from house and techno to hyperpop. Weekdays are useful for discovery; weekends turn the compact floor into a proper party.
- Vinyl DecisionVinyl Decision is a low-key record shop that becomes an intimate jazz-and-funk bar, with cats between the stacks and live music around 8:00 PM. It is cleaner than a classic dive, but the counter ordering, informal room, and music-first regulars make the adjacency honest.
- Sappho Live JazzSappho is a dark, intimate jazz basement with a real bar, nightly sets, and late jams where the audience listens closely without hotel-lounge stiffness. The music charge and two-drink posture make it a planned stop, but the room stays relaxed and artist-led.
