Best Late-Night Food in London
Guide: After-Midnight Kitchens and All-Night Counters
London's useful late-food map is not the same as its late-bar map. These ten kitchens still serve something substantial when theatre, work, or nightlife runs long, from 24-hour dining rooms and salt-beef counters to Soho restaurants with food after midnight. Exact last-food times matter more than the front-door closing time.
- Duck & WaffleDuck & Waffle serves British-European comfort food from the 40th floor around the clock. The signature duck leg, waffle, fried egg, and mustard-maple plate is the obvious order; reservations matter for sunset, while the overnight hours make this one of central London's rare proper sit-down meals after midnight.
- Beigel BakeBeigel Bake runs its Brick Lane counter 24 hours, turning out chewy boiled beigels filled with hot salt beef, mustard, smoked salmon, or cream cheese. Service is fast and inexpensive, but the narrow shop can queue after pubs close; know the order before reaching the counter.
- Polo BarPolo Bar is the Liverpool Street all-night cafe for fry-ups, pancakes, burgers, and uncomplicated comfort food when trains, work, or a late finish destroy the usual meal schedule. It is more useful than glamorous: the 24-hour kitchen and broad menu are the point.
- Balans No.60Balans No.60 is Soho's dependable late dining room for eggs, burgers, pancakes, and cocktails long after most restaurant kitchens stop. Thursday through Saturday service runs into the early morning, making it especially useful for a seated meal rather than another takeaway queue.
- VQ ChelseaVQ Chelsea keeps a 24-hour menu of breakfasts, burgers, salads, and comfort food on Fulham Road. The appeal is straightforward: table service and a full kitchen at hours when west London choices collapse, with enough range to handle both a post-club meal and an unusually early breakfast.
- Bar ItaliaBar Italia has served espresso, panini, pastries, and Italian cafe ritual on Frith Street since 1949. It stays open until 4:00 AM, so the room shifts from morning regulars to post-show and post-club Soho; expect a close-packed counter rather than a leisurely restaurant meal.
- Speedboat Bar SohoSpeedboat serves loud, chilli-driven Thai-Chinese cooking inspired by Bangkok's Yaowarat Road: curries, drunken noodles, seafood salads, whisky sodas, and beer towers. Friday and Saturday food orders run past midnight, but the room is noisy and peak walk-in waits can be long, so book when possible.
- Cecconi's Pizza BarCecconi's Pizza Bar handles late Soho hunger with wood-fired pizza, handmade pasta, cicchetti, Negronis, and Aperol Spritzes. Friday and Saturday service runs to 1:00 AM and the kitchen publishes a separate late-night menu; some tables are held for walk-ins, though booking is safer for groups.
- Chop Chop at the HippodromeChop Chop serves Cantonese roast meats, dim sum, noodles, and rice dishes on the lower ground floor of the Hippodrome until 4:00 AM, with last orders at 3:30 AM. It is a genuine seated meal after most Chinatown kitchens close, but the casino location is strictly 18+ and requires physical photo ID.
- The Blues Kitchen CamdenThe Blues Kitchen Camden is as much a food stop as a music room, with barbecue, burgers, wings, bourbon, and live blues energy for a Camden night that starts at dinner.
