Guide: Getting Around

Four metro lines, two useful buses, the central S-train corridor and public harbor boats cover different kinds of journeys. Each card identifies the route, key connections and operating pattern; the airport transfer guide remains a separate, more focused reference.

  • M1: Center to Islands Brygge & OrestadM1 crosses the center from Vanlose and Frederiksberg before turning south through Islands Brygge, DR Byen and Orestad. It shares the central tracks with M2, then serves the inland side of Amager rather than the airport or beach.
  • M2: Airport, Beach & City CenterM2 links the airport with Amager's beach-side districts, Christianshavn and the central stations at Kongens Nytorv and Norreport. West of the center it continues through Frederiksberg to Vanlose. The airport branch is M2; M1 turns inland toward Vestamager instead.
  • M3 Cityring: Neighborhood LoopThe Cityring circles the inner neighborhoods through Vesterbro, Frederiksberg, Norrebro and Osterbro rather than following one east-west corridor. Central Station, Enghave Plads, Norrebros Runddel and Trianglen make it useful for trips between districts that look close on a map but are a longer walk.
  • M4: Nordhavn to SydhavnM4 joins the modern northern harbor at Orientkaj to the southern canal districts and Copenhagen South. Through the center it shares stations with M3, then branches toward Havneholmen, Enghave Brygge and Sluseholmen, bringing those waterfront neighborhoods onto the metro network.
  • Bus 5C: Norrebro, Center & Airport5C follows the streets through Norrebro and the center before crossing to Amager and the airport. Its many intermediate stops put it closer to some addresses than a metro station, although traffic makes the airport trip less predictable than rail. Not every short working continues to the terminal.
  • Bus 2A: Refshaleoen & Museum Streets2A reaches Refshaleoen and the Opera approach before crossing Christianshavn into the center. Its stops near Christiansborg, the National Museum and Central Station provide street-level access, then the route continues through Frederiksberg and Bronshoj toward Tingbjerg.
  • S-trains: The Central Rail CorridorS-trains carry Copenhagen's suburban commuters through a shared central corridor, with stops at Central Station, Vesterport, Norreport and Osterport. This map shows the city section of line A from Copenhagen South to Svanemollen, not the full suburban network or the airport's regional trains.
  • Harbor Buses 991 & 992The harbor buses are public transport boats, not a sightseeing cruise. They link waterfront landings from Teglholmen through the central harbor to Refshaleoen and Orientkaj. The current route has eleven stops; departures are much less frequent than the metro and change with the seasonal timetable.
