Copenhagen Airport Transfer Guide: Metro, Train, and Buses

Guide: Airport Trains, Metro, and Buses

Copenhagen Airport connects cleanly to the city by M2, main-line train, and three useful bus routes. Choose by address: M2 for the old center and Norreport, the train for Central Station and Orestad, 5C for Norrebro and stops between, and buses 35 or 36 for southern Amager and Dragor.

  • M2 Metro: Airport to VanloseM2 is the fastest all-purpose airport line for central Copenhagen, running directly from Terminal 3 through Christianshavn, Kongens Nytorv, and Norreport before continuing west to Frederiksberg and Vanlose. Trains are driverless and run all night; the airport to Norreport trip takes about 15 minutes.
  • Airport Train: Terminal 3 to Copenhagen CentralMain-line trains run below Terminal 3 to Tarnby, Orestad, and Copenhagen Central. They are the cleanest choice for hotels around the central station, Tivoli, Vesterbro, or an onward Danish rail connection; buy a ticket before boarding and confirm the platform on the airport screens.
  • Bus 5C: Airport, Central Station, and Norrebro5C is the slower but broadest city bus from the airport, crossing Amager before serving Copenhagen Central, City Hall Square, Norreport, Norrebro, Bronshoj, and Herlev. It is most useful when your address sits directly on the route or when the rail lines have stopped close to, but not at, your hotel.
  • Bus 35: Airport, Dragor, and SundbyvesterBus 35 links the airport with Dragor's old harbor town and then loops back toward Sundbyvester Plads. It is not a central-Copenhagen shortcut; it is the useful line for Dragor, Store Magleby, and southern Amager addresses that would otherwise require a rail-and-bus change.
  • Bus 36: Airport, Tarnby, and VestamagerBus 36 stays local, running from the airport through Kastrup and Tarnby Station to residential Vestamager. It is useful for southern Amager addresses and Tarnby rail connections; for the old center, M2 or the airport train is faster and simpler.
