Best Nature and Beaches in Koh Samui

Koh Samui’s nature includes long northern sand, a compact granite-framed cove, west-coast sunsets and forest streams. The island’s Gulf weather matters: beach swimming depends on local conditions, while recent rain changes both waterfall flow and the footing on inland trails.

  1. Mae Nam Beach

Mae Nam is a long northern beach with palm shade and views toward Koh Phangan. Its quieter stretches offer more room for a walk than central Chaweng, while small resorts and restaurants sit behind the sand. Swimming conditions still depend on the wind, tide and local flags.

  2. Lipa Noi Beach

Lipa Noi faces west across shallow coastal water, with sand, palms and a small spread of beach cafes and resorts. Sunset is the defining reason to cross to this side of the island. Keep swimming plans separate from the view when the Gulf monsoon brings rough conditions.

  3. Silver Beach – Thong Takhian

Silver Beach is a small cove between Chaweng and Lamai, framed by granite boulders and backed by beach resorts. Calm conditions allow snorkelling around the rocks close to shore. Its roughly 250-metre length means a modest crowd can fill the sand quickly.

  4. Na Muang 1 Waterfall

Na Muang 1 drops over granite into a forest pool reached by a short walk from the parking area. It is the lower waterfall, separate from Na Muang 2 and its steeper trail. Recent rain improves the flow but also makes the rocks and approach slippery.

  5. Hin Lad Waterfall

Hin Lad follows a forest stream east of Nathon, with a roughly 1.5-kilometre walk leading from the road toward the cascade. The shaded route is part of the visit, so allow time for the return as well as the water. Rainfall changes the flow and footing along the stream.
